View from Sky's office and Yue Li and Sky's bedroom.

The cloudy/smoggy look is off-putting here in Chong Quing. However, if you look at a map you will see that the Chong Quing "valley" is basically a soup bowl surrounded by mountains. Coming in on the plane from Bejing it was nothing but mountains and then a vast blanket of clouds which covered the valley. Like Los Angeles, the fog, cloud cover and smog get all mixed up to form this look. Unlike Los Angles there is no outlet like the ocean for it to release into. The Chinese call this area Fog City.

  1. Reminds me of the horrible smog we ran into in Beijing when we were there! But aren't the buildings amazing, particularly since most of them have gone up in the last 10-15 years!

  2. Really, you have to wonder what kind of impact that has on people's thinking here.
